The M5 iPad Pro: A Video Editing Suite That Fits in an Envelope

Apple has refreshed the iPad Pro with its new M5 chip — a machine that benchmarks alongside professional laptops, in a slab you forget is in your bag. It's overkill for tills and forms. It's precisely right for one growing species of small business: the ones producing their own media.

Where it earns its (considerable) price

  • Editing on the sofa, publishing from the van. Full multi-track 4K editing in apps like Final Cut and DaVinci Resolve, with exports that no longer invite a tea break.
  • AI features run locally — transcription, image tools, noise removal — fast and offline.
  • The tandem OLED screen is arguably the best portable display money buys: what you grade on it is what your audience sees.
  • Client-facing polish: proposals, portfolios and sign-offs on this screen simply land differently.

The honest framing

Most readers don't need this iPad — the £329 one still does the business basics, and we said so in March. But if video is becoming part of how your firm markets itself, a tablet-based edit suite means the gap between "filmed it" and "published it" shrinks from a weekend to a lunch break. In content, speed of publishing is a strategy in itself.
