The £150 Kit That Makes Phone Video Look Professional

A truth from twenty years in professional video: audiences forgive average pictures and abandon bad sound. Your phone's camera is already excellent; what makes footage look amateur is wobble, murk and echo. All three are solved for under £150.
The kit
- A wireless clip-on microphone (~£60–£90). The transformation. DJI's Mic Mini and similar rivals clip to your collar, connect straight to the phone, and deliver broadcast-clean voice from metres away. This is the single best pound-for-pound upgrade in all of content creation.
- A tripod with phone mount (~£25). Locked-off, level shots instantly read as "produced". Doubles as a light stand.
- A small LED panel or ring light (~£25–£40). Placed in front of you, near a window: even, flattering light that lifts any interior. Face the window; never sit with it behind you.
The free upgrades
Clean your lens (genuinely — it's smeared). Film in landscape or vertical deliberately, per platform, not by accident. Record in a soft-furnished room, not the echoing kitchen. And stand closer than feels natural: tight framing plus clean audio is 90% of "looking professional".
Spend the money you saved on a camera upgrade on the thing that actually needed upgrading.
