Samsung opened 2025 with the Galaxy S25 family (from £799), and the pitch has completed its shift: last year's launch was about cameras; this one was almost entirely about AI. Google's Gemini is now the phone's default assistant, able to work across apps — "find the restaurant Sarah messaged me about and add it to my calendar" — while Galaxy AI handles live call translation, writing help, and photo editing.

The bits that earn their keep in a working day

  • Call transcripts and summaries — every client phone call can end with notes you didn't take.
  • Live translation on calls — niche until the day it isn't.
  • Cross-app actions — the assistant finally doing errands rather than answering trivia.

The buying question for business owners

Don't upgrade for AI features alone — most arrive on older models via updates, and the genuinely transformative agent stuff is still maturing. Upgrade when the camera, battery or reliability is costing you money. What the S25 really signals is the direction of every device you'll buy from now on: the phone as a colleague that listens, summarises and fetches. Worth understanding even if your current handset survives another year.
