Nikon Z50 II: The Sensible Camera for Businesses Getting Serious

26 November 2024
Nikon has launched the Z50 II, a mid-sized mirrorless camera around the £849 body-only mark, and it's a textbook example of what 2024's camera market has become: stills cameras quietly rebuilt as content machines.
What's notable for business use
- Autofocus borrowed from Nikon's flagship — it finds and tracks faces and products tenaciously, which is what actually ruins amateur video: focus hunting, not resolution.
- A dedicated "product review" mode that shifts focus instantly from your face to an object held up to camera — a feature that exists purely because of creators.
- One-button livestreaming and clean 4K, plus a flip-out screen for pieces to camera.
The buying logic
Cameras in this class are where phone-shooting businesses graduate to when they want interchangeable lenses (that dreamy background blur in talking-head videos), reliable performance in dim interiors, and files that hold up on a big screen at a trade show. Between this, Sony's ZV line and Canon's recent releases, the £700–£1,000 bracket is now spoiled for choice.
Our standing advice: the camera matters less than the lighting and the sound. But if the phone is genuinely holding you back, this generation is the best value the "step up" has ever been.
