"Near Me": The Local Search Statistics That Should Change Your Priorities
Digital Marketing
4 June 2025
While marketers argue about AI and algorithms, the most valuable searches for most small firms remain stubbornly simple: someone nearby, wanting something now.
The numbers
- Roughly half of all Google searches have local intent, by widely used industry estimates — people looking for something in a place.
- "Near me" searches have grown relentlessly for a decade, and Google's own research has long shown that a large majority of people who search for something local on their phone visit or contact a business within a day.
- The "map pack" — the three businesses shown with the map — captures a huge share of clicks before anyone reaches the normal results.
How to win it (no agency required)
- Your Google Business Profile is your second website. Complete every field, add real photos monthly, post offers, answer the Q&A. Most competitors set it up once in 2019 and never returned.
- Reviews are the currency. Steady, recent reviews — replied to, every one — move you up the map and convert the people who find you.
- Say your place names in plain text on your website: the towns you serve, on real pages, not hidden in an image.
National SEO is a war. Local SEO is a to-do list. Do the list.
