While marketers debate Instagram and TikTok, the app UK customers actually open most is the green one. WhatsApp counts around three billion users globally, near-universal adoption in Britain — and a free Business version most small firms have never installed.

What WhatsApp Business gives you, free

  • A business profile with hours, address, website and a catalogue of products or services customers can browse in-chat
  • Away messages and quick replies — the answers you type ten times a day, saved
  • Labels to organise chats (new lead, awaiting payment, VIP)
  • Broadcast lists for opt-in updates to customers — read rates that email marketers would sell relatives for

Why it converts so well

Messaging is where deals actually close for service businesses: photos of the job, a quick quote, a booking confirmed — all in the thread the customer already trusts, with none of email's formality or delay. Meta knows it, which is why "click-to-WhatsApp" adverts and AI assistant features keep expanding.

One rule

It's a permission channel. Message people who asked, about things they want, at a human frequency. The same intimacy that makes WhatsApp powerful makes spam unforgivable — and blockable, permanently, in one tap.
