Galaxy S26: Samsung Banks Everything on the Helpful Phone

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S26 range yesterday (from £879, on sale early March) with a redesigned camera bar, brighter screens and the customary better-everything. The revealing part was the emphasis: barely a word about megapixels for their own sake, everything about the phone as a proactive assistant — summarising, translating, suggesting and fetching before being asked, with much of the AI now running privately on the device.

Business-relevant notes

  • Night videography improvements continue the trend that matters most for real-world business filming: dim workshops, evening events, moody interiors.
  • Call screening and live translation mature further — the admin features quietly worth more than camera specs to a working owner.
  • The Ultra's privacy display (blocking side-on viewing) is a genuinely clever answer to working on trains.
  • Prices crept up ~£100 across the range — the industry-wide pattern this year.

The bigger observation

Apple, Google and Samsung have converged on the same pitch: the phone as junior colleague. Hardware differences between flagships are now marginal; the real gap is between owners who use these capabilities — transcribed calls, drafted replies, sorted photos — and the majority paying flagship prices to use 10% of the machine. Training beats upgrading, again.
