Canon Goes All-In on Creators: PowerShot V1 and EOS R50 V
Devices

26 March 2025
Canon — long the cautious giant of the camera world — has just committed fully to the creator economy, announcing two video-first models for global release: the PowerShot V1 compact (£959) and the EOS R50 V mirrorless, its first camera built from scratch for vlogging.
What's new here
- The PowerShot V1 squeezes an unusually large 1.4-inch sensor into a fixed-lens compact, with a wide zoom made for arm's-length presenting, optical stabilisation and even a cooling fan for long recordings. Early reviews rate it the new benchmark pocket video camera.
- The R50 V undercuts Sony's popular ZV-E10 II while adding a dedicated livestream button, a front record button, and a tripod thread on its side for native vertical shooting — a small detail that says everything about who this is for.
Why competition here helps you
Sony had the "creator camera" market largely to itself for five years. Canon's arrival (and Fujifilm's, and Nikon's) means the £600–£1,000 bracket is now a genuine buyer's market: better autofocus, better audio, vertical-video features as standard, and prices held honest.
For a business, these cameras hit the sweet spot: professional-looking output, one-person operation, no film crew. The excuses keep shrinking.
